The term “dental prosthesis” generally sounds troubling as it is associated with replacing natural teeth. However, the meaning of this concept has changed drastically after the successful introduction of all-ceramic prostheses (porcelain).
Zirconium oxide and aluminum oxide frames are recommended instead of metal frames in modern prosthodontics. These are very durable materials, also called ceramic steel, and can be used for individual crowns or bridges of all dental groups. Metal-free ceramic restorations have excellent esthetics – they are indistinguishable from real teeth, even to the keenest eyes. In addition, it is a highly biocompatible material that is well tolerated by the human body, causes no side effects and does not affect the gums.
